And Are These Words Statistically Significant?
Many people are unaware of the controversial Bible
Codes.

The idea that the Bible has hidden codes is not new.
Rabbi Bachya ben Asher, who died in 1340, was
probably the first to discover an Equidistant Letter
Sequence (ELS) code in the Bible. His four-letter
code dealt with the zero-point of the Jewish calendar.
Isaac Newton believed that the Bible itself was "a
cryptogram set by the Almighty -- a riddle of the
Godhead of past and future events divinely
fore-ordained...which Daniel was commanded to shut
up and seal, till the time of the end."

The Jewish sage, Vilna Gaon Elijah Ben Solomon
Zalman (1720-1797), taught that everything that ever
was, is, or will be, was contained within the Torah. He
said: "The rule is that all that was, is, and will be unto
the end of time is included in the Torah, from the first
word to the last word. And not merely in a general
sense, but as to the details of every species and each
one individually, and details of details of everything
that happened to him from the day of his birth until his
end."

Current research may be proving him right -- though
the codes appear to run throughout the entire
Hebrew scriptures.

Although Codes were found in the past, (most notably
by Rabbi Michael Ber Weissmandl, whose work
wasn't published until 1957 -- after his death), it
wasn't until the advent of the computer that the
existence and extent of the Bible Codes was fully
realized.

In the 1980s, codes' research came to the attention
of Eliyahu Rips, Doron Witztum, Alexander Rotenberg
and several others. The result was that, in 1994, a
paper entitled "Equidistant Letter Sequences in the
Book of Genesis" was published in
Statistical
Science
, one of the world's foremost mathematical
and scientific journals.

Using a computer program that they had written, they
searched the Book of Genesis by Equidistant Letter
Sequence (or ELS).

How this works: A word or phrase is chosen to
search for. Once the program finds the first letter of
the word search, it looks for the second letter. The
program will search at different intervals. It might
begin searching at a two letter interval. If the word or
phrase is not found, it might then go to a three letter
interval, and so on. Once the program finds the
second letter, it continues to search at that skip
sequence. So if there are seven skips between the
first letter and the second, the computer continues to
search for the remaining letters at a skip sequence of
seven. I have included an example of how this works
below. Can you find the encoded word?

Cold weather could delay our departure, Janet. See
you soon.

As you can see, the word I encoded in the above
example is: code. If you haven't found it yet, start at
the first 'c' and skip every twelve letters. It's not an
accident that the word is there. I deliberately
encoded it, and it took a little time and effort.

Next, it's important to know that the Bible Codes'
program removes the spaces and punctuation from
the surface text, like below.

coldweathercoulddelayourdeparturejanetseeyousoo

In a Bible Codes' matrix, the length of the lines is
determined by the skip sequence in the code. Since
there are 12 skips between each letter in my sample
code, each line in my matrix is 12 letters long. Now
you can see the word 'code' spelled out vertically in
column one in the below matrix.

coldweatherc
oulddelayour
departurejan
etseeyousoon

The codes in the Bible, and the research conducted
in the 1980s, are certainly more complex and
elaborate than that. In the "great rabbis experiment,"
the researchers searched for the names of 34
famous rabbis who lived between the ninth and
eighteenth centuries. They paired the names of these
men with their dates of birth or death. (Using the
Hebrew calendar and language.) They found every
single name, paired with the date of birth or death,
encoded in the book of Genesis. The odds of this
happening by chance were only one chance in
775,000,000.

Later, a second group was run. All 32 men in this
group, along with their dates of birth and death, were
also found. The odds of all 66 names and dates
occurring by chance were 1 in 2.5 billion.

Since that day, many more codes have been found,
and the research continues. Unfortunately, many
sensationalists have attempted to use Code research
to predict the future -- to the detriment of serious
code research. The Bible Codes cannot be used to
predict the future and should not be used to form
doctrine.

I use the Bible Codes 2001 software. I have
conducted code research into my name and the
personal names of my family. All results are in
Hebrew, but I have included the English translation.
This is a brief overview of the results of my own
personal research:

My name is encoded twice in the Bible. It runs
backwards: Kennedy Dora L. The odds of just my
name being encoded twice are 1 chance in 170. In
the most significant matrix, which is the size of a large
paragraph, there are several occurrences of my
"middle" name, Lynn. One of the "Lynn's" that occurs
on the page shares the "L" in Kennedy Dora L. It runs
diagonally, pointing down and right to a large cluster
of codes that relates to my family. (My name runs
vertically down the middle of the matrix.) I was named
after my maternal grandmother, Dora Esther. One
skip above the L in my name, and running
horizontally, is my maternal grandmother's middle
name, Esther.

My grandfather's name, Nellis, also appears to be in
the matrix, though I'm not certain if I used the correct
Hebrew spelling. A few skips from my name are the
names of my mom and dad. Coming down from my
mom's name, is my sister's name. My sister's name
was Holly. Her name occurs six times in the matrix.
(There are six years between our dates of birth.) Holly
died July 17, 2002. Her name, her date of death, and
the date of her last birthday, February 8, 2002, form a
rough, broken triangle. One of the tips of the triangle
cuts through the heart of my mother's name.

My son's name appears several times in the matrix .
One is toward the bottom of the matrix. The K in his
name shares the K in my name. Another occurrence
of his name runs horizontally across the middle of my
name and is just below the name of his father. There
are numerous family names in the matrix as well, but
in order to maintain some privacy, I won't go into all of
them.

The matrix also lists some of the jobs that I have held,
and it lists the time of the year that I was born -- I was
born on the first day of spring. I am my mother's
oldest child, and firstborn is encoded in the matrix.
There is quite a bit of personal information in the
matrix. The word 'encode' is also found in the matrix.
It is embedded in my name and shares several of the
same letters as my name. Shroud is also found in the
matrix, and as you will see below, it was the Shroud of
Turin and the codes that led to my conversion to
Christianity.

My first question is, how did my name and so much
personal information get into a manuscript that is
several thousand years old? And in such a small
space? As I said, the matrix where this information is
encoded is about the size of a large paragraph. Is it
just a coincidence? And what about all the other
codes discovered to date by the scientists? It seems
that every major and minor event in history is
encoded in the Bible. Are all of those codes just
coincidence too? If they're not coincidence then they
are deliberate.

The Bible claims to be God's word. If God did inspire
it, would He leave such strange clues pointing to His
authorship? I am primarily orthodox in my beliefs, but
most orthodox Christians don't believe the Bible is
encoded. Most people think the codes are just a
coincidence -- or the natural by product of large
blocks of text. But the rabbis have a saying that I like:
"Coincidence is not a kosher word."

Personally, I suspect that nothing takes God by
surprise. To me, the codes are further proof of the
Divine inspiration of the scriptures. Initially, they were
why I changed my hostile opinion of the Bible. I
realized that if the Bible were encoded, only God
could have done it. I also realized that if God wrote
the Bible, I needed to take the Bible seriously and find
out what it said. Today, I would believe the Bible,
every word of it, even without the codes - primarily
because of the prophetic, archaeological, and
scientific evidence. (More on that below.)

The secularist say that the discovery of extensive
hidden words in the Hebrew text is partly because
there are only 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet, and
that "hidden words" will always be found in any large
body of text -- and that's true. They also complain that
people manipulate the spelling to get the results they
want, and I'm sure there are people who do that. But I
don't know if all "codes" in the Bible can be explained
away by those things -- though many can be. It's
important to realize that, in general, code critics don't
deny that the "hidden words" are there -- they admit
that the words are there -- they deny that they mean
anything, that they are "codes," or that they are
statistically significant.

I don't really do code research anymore. I've decided
it's too complicated and needs to be left to the
mathematicians who have a thorough knowledge of
Hebrew. One issue I have with Bible Codes is that
much of what is being passed off as a Bible Code is
probably nothing more than a naturally occurring
word. As mentioned, there are a lot of hidden words
in any large block of text, and the Bible certainly has
a lot of hidden words -- millions of them. I don't think
all of those words are codes, though. (But, who
knows, God is capable of anything. Maybe every one
of those words is part of some vast, multi-dimensional
code. But if they are, it's beyond human
understanding.)

However, the mathematicians have a way of sorting
through all the "noise" to get to the codes that
humans CAN understand. And I absolutely do believe
there are real codes in the Bible. But I'm not qualified
to find them. I do know my name is there and the
other details I've listed. I find them compelling, and I
do think they're encoded, but I might be wrong. Of
course, it's the plain text of the Bible that really
matters.

The code skeptics do make good arguments; but, to
me, the Bible Codes are very compelling. (There are
links farther down this page related to the codes, and
also links on other issues discussed in this article.)

Shortly after learning about the Bible Codes in 1999,
something else occurred that also led to my
conversion to Christianity. It was a program on the
Discovery Channel about the Shroud of Turin.

The first time I heard about the Shroud was when my
father was asked by an acquaintance to set up some
equipment and software that would allow Dr. John
Jackson to plot cross sections of geometric data
taken from the Shroud. The data was then used to
build a statue of the Shroud. The statue was placed
on display at the Air Force Academy in Colorado
Springs. I believe it is still there to this day.

The next thing I heard about the Shroud was the
carbon 14 test results. I thought that was the end of
the Shroud. But then in 1999, I saw the program:
"
Jesus and the Shroud of Turin" on the Discovery
Channel. (I also recommend this introduction to the
Shroud of Turin,
Click Here. These are short lectures
from Shroud University.) The scientific evidence
convinced me that this was indeed the burial cloth of
Christ -- and, for me, the inexplicable image on the
cloth was proof of the resurrection. I was so
overwhelmed by this program that I literally fell to my
knees in submission to Christ. When I arose from my
knees, I was a new person in Christ. My overwhelming
and non-stop depression was gone; my addictions
were gone; my shame, guilt, fear, and worry were
gone; my interests were changed, and my anger was
gone. I now knew what it meant to be born again.

It was a combination of the Bible Codes and the
Shroud of Turin that led to my conversion. The Codes
and the Shroud started me on a search for more
evidence. It led me into a study of Biblical prophecies
and their fulfillment. It led me into a search for
historical, scientific, and archaeological evidence.
And much to my shock, despite what I'd been taught
in schools and in the media, the evidence was there.
If you have never really checked for yourself, please
do. The consequences of being wrong in this regard
are serious. I know most people think there are no
answers to the skeptics' questions about God, but
there are answers. I strongly encourage you to seek
them, and through them, God and His Son.

this site if you have any questions or comments about
anything you've read on this page. Thank you.
Doralynn.
This page has been written to help you make a
reasoned decision about the authority of the Bible.
Why is it important to make a reasoned decision
about the authority of the Bible? Because the Bible
says in Romans 3:23 that "all have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God." The Bible says that no one
enters Heaven unless they've been born again. It
says that no one comes unto the Father except
through Christ. (If you've never read the Bible,
please get one and read the book of John.) Or you
can read or listen to it online at:
http://www.biblegateway.com/
or http://www.blueletterbible.org

Despite what the Bible says, most people consider
themselves to be good people. But what is God's
standard? When the 10 commandments are
presented to people, they quickly admit: "Yes. I've
lied." "Yes. I've stolen -- but it was only something
small." "Yes. I've taken God's name in vain, but I'm
basically a good person." "Yes. I've lusted after him,"
or "I've lusted after her." (Which, according to Jesus,
makes them an adulterer at heart.) They are
convinced that they're a good person, even though
they just admitted that they're a liar, a thief, a
blasphemer, and an adulterer at heart. The Bible
says that all liars, thieves, adulterers, and
blasphemers will not see Heaven. Still, when asked,
most people will say that when they die they think
they will go to Heaven -- even though the Bible tells
us that God is a just God and will punish sin.

At this point, most people will say, "But God is
merciful. He's a God of love and forgiveness. I think
He'll overlook my sins."

But consider an earthly judge. Let's say you're in
court. You're guilty. You've broken the law and there
is a penalty, but you say to the judge, "Your Honor, I
know you're a merciful judge and I'm sure you won't
punish me for my crimes."

Do you think he'll let you go? No! If he did, he wouldn't
be a just judge. Imagine a world where lawbreakers
always go unpunished. Judges who allow these
criminals to walk away are not just. They are as guilty
as those who committed the crimes.

Now let's say you're back in court awaiting your
sentencing. You find out that the court is charging
you an enormous fine that you can't possibly pay. But
just as you're about to be led away in handcuffs,
someone you don't even know comes into the
courtroom and pays your fine for you. How would you
feel toward that person? Grateful? I hope so. He just
took the punishment for you.

Well, that's what Christ did on the cross for us nearly
2000 years ago. He suffered a terrible, humiliating
death, and He paid the penalty for our sins with His
blood—so that we could be reconciled to God.

Romans 5:8 puts it this way: "But God commendeth
his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us."

And Romans 6:23 tells us that: "The wages of sin is
death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord."

Jesus died on the cross and took the punishment for
our sins, but He rose three days later and gave us
eternal life. That's the good news. In Romans 10:9
the Bible says: "If you confess with your mouth Jesus
as Lord, Yield and believe in your heart that God
raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved."

Great Ways to Help Others
More Great Ways to Help

Many of us want to give more to charity. We want to
do more to make a difference in the world and in the
lives of others. Quite often the thing that keeps us
from giving more than we do is our wallet, but there
are ways to give that don't cost anything -- except a
little bit of time.

The below charities are great ways to give. All it takes
is one click a day at the site or sites of your choice.
No matter what your "cause" is, there is a way to help
that doesn't involve your checkbook or credit card.

This may seem too good to be true. How can you give
to a charity by clicking on a banner? The answer is
advertising sponsors. Every day when you click on
the site of your choice, you will be taken to a
confirmation page. The sponsors will be listed there.
It's an ingenious idea. Not only have they found a
unique way to advertise their business, but they are
helping others at the same time. They pay for clicks,
just like advertisers at Google or Yahoo pay for clicks.
The difference is that these advertisers are
sponsoring charities with those clicks - and hoping to
gain new customers in the process.

Here are some of the sites that raise money for
charities through advertising dollars.

http://www.ripple.org/buttons.html
There are four buttons at Ripple. They provide water,
food, education, and money.

At Ripple you can click to give 6 days access to clean
water. "When Wateraid provides a community with
ongoing and sustainable access to clean water and
sanitation the net cost per person is $30. Over twenty
five years (WaterAid projects will continue for the life
of a community) the average cost to provide water
per day is $0.0033. For 2c (the lowest amount raised
per click) this equates to 6 days access to clean
water and sanitation."

At Ripple you can also click to help a village feed itself.

Another project at Ripple is access to education.
"The Oaktree Foundation is currently raising money
to help build schools in East Timor, one of the poorest
nations in the world. $25 will cover the cost of
opening up a full 7 years of primary school education
for a child at one of the schools built by Oaktree and
its partners in East Timor. This equates to $3.55 for
one year of primary education for a child and 2c (the
lowest amount raised per click) equates to 2 days of
primary education."

And at Ripple you can click to finance a $100 loan for
a day. "10 cents represents the daily interest that
Grameen pays to finance $400 that it then lends to a
poor borrower. Thus 10 cents a day can maintain a
$400 loan for someone to start their own business
and lift themselves out of poverty. Your click will raise
at least 2c, enough to finance approximately $100 of
that loan today."

http://www.bhookh.com/
7000 people die of starvation everday in India. One
click will donate a cup of staple food to a hungry
Indian through the UN.

http://www.care2.com/click-to-donate/children/
Your free click generates donations from their
sponsors. You may click once a day, every day. 100%
of the donations raised go directly to Children
International to help children and families overcome
poverty through child sponsorship. At the time that
this post was written, free clicks had provided 595
months of Children International child sponsorship.

After you click that link, look to the left. You can also
click to donate to a variety of different charities.
These charities fund the preservation of rainforest,
big cats, pets, seals, oceans, primates, and wolves;
or you can click to fight violence against women and

interested in helping.

click on all of these. You can also play games to raise

addictive, so word of warning there. You can also
send free e-cards. Some are really cool. They don't
add anyone to a mailing list, but they do let the
recipient know about their site.

This is a fun way to provide shelter for abused and
homeless children. A few seconds of music from a
sponsoring musician will play when you click on the
buttons. You can make donations by clicking once per
day; however, there are 5 buttons and each button is
a separate donation. Therefore, you can click on all 5
buttons and donate 5 times -- and, at the same time,
you can listen to some great artists who need the
exposure.

http://www.oneclickatatime.org/
Click the different categories in the menu on the left
of the page. This is a directory of numerous charities
where you can click free to give. There is crossover
to the above list, but there are many charities not
covered above. Some of their links no longer work
though, and a couple of the broken links have caused
my computer to freeze.

The categories listed at the above site are: Animal
Charities, Environmental Charities, Health Charities,
Hunger Charities, Children Charities, Womens
Charities, Homeless Charities, and many other
charities.

Here are some sites I just came across:

http://www.thenonprofits.com/

hunger and poverty

http://clicktogive.com/Sponsor-Children.aspx

http://www.wyklikajzywnosc.pl/

http://donate1click.com/index.html

http://www.worldlegacy.org/ - you don't need to install
to click. Scroll down, there are two causes; one in
USA.

http://www.porloschicos.com/ - probably the same as
the one already listed.

http://www.freerice.com/ - this one and the next one
are interactive. You answer questions. Each correct
answer increases your donation - rice, water.

http://www.freepoverty.com/ - have to locate places
on the map to give.

http://www.okruszek.org.pl/ - click loaf, give bread.

http://www.cliquesemiarido.org.br/ give water

http://www.worldhunger.org/contributefood.htm -
answer quiz, give food

There are still more categories here:
http://www.thenonprofits.com/ (health, education,
misc; environment; animals)

http://www.goodsearch.com/  - choose charity to
support with your searches.

http://www.freewebs.com/clickforcharity/  - different
charities, haven't checked out to see if any are ones I
don't already know about.

Consistently giving a little time every day, and telling
others about these sites, does make a difference. It's
certainly better than doing nothing at all.
