Home Based Customer Service

There are several home based call center positions available.

Some are contract work and some are employer / employee models with hourly pay
and benefits. Hourly pay ranges from $7.50 to $14 or $20 per hour depending upon
the company. (Note: It is different for companies that pay by the minute or that include
commissions).

Here are some standard requirements for a home-based agent:

Must have a professional and pleasant phone presence.

Ability to commit an average of 20 – 30 hours per week. All call center's allow you the
freedom to choose your available times.

You need a quiet and professional work environment.

You need a reliable personal computer.

Must be able to pass a background check.

System requirements vary, but some common system requirements would be:

Windows 98 Second Edition or higher
Pentium II 300 MHz or faster processor
600 MB free hard drive space
256 MB RAM
Internet Explorer 6 - SP1 or later
Anti-virus software with current and updated virus definitions
Anti-spyware software.
A reliable high-speed ISP service with bi-directional speeds of 128K or more. Cannot be
a wireless or a satellite connection. A wireless connection within your home is
acceptable as long as your DSL or cable connection is hard-wired.
Ability to be on the Internet and on the phone at the same.
No cell phones or IP phones.
Your telephone must be a corded traditional telephone.
No cordless, cellular/wireless, or VoIP - (A few companies do use VoIP)
Call waiting must be disabled before each work shift.
Some do not allow call waiting, voice mail,  or caller id.
Some need an unlimited long distance calling plan.
A corded headset with a noise-canceling microphone. The headset must be corded
and plug into a corded telephone to allow you to work hands-free.

When you receive your Directory, be sure to look closely at all the call centers. As
mentioned, some of them pay better than others. Plus some of them are inbound and
some of them are outbound. Some of them will hire you as an employee, and some of
them will work with you on a contract basis. Some of them are available in limited
areas, and some of them are available nationwide. The number of hours available
vary.
